Programming Manager

Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Programming Manager will be responsible for the developing original show concepts, creating materials to present those ideas and assisting in pitching those concepts both internally and externally, all with a goal to support brand and business objectives.  The Programming Manager will need to have a strong understanding of both the production and sales processes as well as experience in project budgeting.

Key Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Ideation and development of original show and segment concepts to assist in sales, distribution and syndication needs
  • Act as liaison between sales and production departments
  • Serve as a brand advocate, working seamlessly with leadership team to help formulate and communicate a programming vision that ties directly to the overall network strategy, with clear content objectives and success measurements.
  • Participate in development meetings and help manage implementation of notes and feedback as project moves from idea to final series concept
  • Work collaboratively with peers on revenue, sales activation, production and programming teams to help shape and realize the overall strategic delivery of content.
  • Leverage relationships with producers to help identify new ideas, projects and potential co-productions to share with the leadership team. Harness relationships in the creative community to help attract top tier talent including on-air talent, producers, editors, etc.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 7+ years relevant experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of television and media: the ideal candidate should be familiar with syndication
  • Proven knowledge of television, music, pop-culture, trends and emerging technology
  • Collaborative, solutions oriented and entrepreneurial
  • Proven ability to execute on unique ideas and translate them into winning/successful programming
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and manage high-pressure situations
  • Must be comfortable working at both a strategic and tactical level
  • Experience preparing and managing to a budget
  • Proven ability to drive results with limited oversite and direction
  • Extensive knowledge of TV production and post-production processes
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication and stakeholder management
  • Highly collaborative with internal teams and external partners
  • Proven ability to impose structure and a culture of organization
  • Professional, clear and engaging written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate to executives and across organizations
  • Detail-oriented and self-starter
  • Outward passion for the media industry
  • Strong industry knowledge of digital products and how they are utilized
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, TV/Film or relevant field
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
  • Some night and weekend work/travel may be required
